Brimbank Mayor and the Minister for Sports and Recreation Justin Madden's office tells Sunshine to get lost.

According to an article in last week's "Leader" newspaper in a real smash in the face for one third of the Brimbank Community the Mayor Natalie Suleyman has announced that the much anticipated announcement of a 'Stage 2' outdoor replacement pool complex for Sunshine now no longer exists!

As you recall, after a five day pool picket the Council voted as a 'consensus' to work with both the Trade Union and the State Government toward funding a 'Stage 2' replacement of the three Sunshine Outdoor Pools.

However, Natalie Suleyman has now taken another massive slash to the hopes of one third of the municipality who will now have no outdoor pools if she and her fellow Councillors have their way.

The Mayor announced to the reporter from the Leader that "We didn't say that Stage 2 would include a swimming pool, it might just mean fixing the roof"...

To make matters worse a spokesperson for the Minister for Sports and Recreation Justin Madden has indicated that there will be no communication with the Sunshine Pool campaigners as it is damaging for the Minister!

So the Labor Party Ministers and Labor Councillors are basically now telling us to go away and be happy with the new three feet deep shallow indoor pool.

The estimated 30,000 children and teenagers in the southern third of the municpality will watch the newspapers and see three outdoor pools demolished not ever knowing what an outdoor pool or large pool experience is.

After 14 years the State Government has committed $1.4 million to Brimbank for a shallow kiddie pool and is supporting the Labor dominated Brimbank Council in the demolition of three outdoor pools, removal of tall trees and grassed areas.

Harold Holt 50m outdoot pool in Malvern built at the same time as the Sunshine Pool had new boilers installed recently so it is open 365 days per year, and a further $7 million is being spent this year on upgrades.

It is now patently clear to everyone involved that our families are being seriously penalised for living in a safe Labor seat. There is no other explanation.

Pokie machine losses in Brimbank are about $110 million a year; about a third of that - $30 million - goes to the State Government in taxes not including the tax you pay.

Brimbank has a population of over 170,000 people and has now only one outdoor pool (in St Albans)

Brimbank also has close to the worst health status in Victoria with record high obesity and diabetes levels.

Sunshine has been ear marked as a Principal Activity Centre however only a 3 feet deep wading pool will replace three outdoor pools including our 50 metre pool.

Ten years ago the outdoor pool would have cost $300,000 to fix, 3 years ago the council was quoted $2.3 million to replace the outdoor pool.

Join us in the campaign to have the pools repaired or replaced properly now!
