So if I read everything right so far:

The Labor Party has made no policy or commitment to replacing the outdoor 50m pool in Sunshine.

The Liberal Party has made no commitment either.

But apparently the Greens have made a comitment for Sunshine and they are the only party to do this so far?

Can someone tell me if this is correct and if possible tell us what their statement was?

Greens Position on Sunshine Swim and Leisure Centre

Published Date: 2006/8/28

The Greens commit to supporting in all forums:

• A Stage 2 development of Sunshine Swim and Leisure Centre fully funded in the State budget. Smile

• The funding for this development to be sourced from the $30 million plus tax revenue currently derived from poker machine losses within Brimbank annually. Smile

• That construction of the second stage development should continue immediately from the completion of the current stage 1 development. Smile

• The stage 2 development to incorporate a deep water leisure pool suitable for the recreational needs of adolescent youth, people with special needs, elderly residents and school usage. Smile

• Prompt but genuine consultation on the project to ensure the design is based on the communities needs. Smile

• Reviewing the Better Pools Funding model to ensure that communities that are most disadvantaged are given the highest priority and those aquatic facilities are made affordable to municipalities that are least able to afford them. Smile

• Recognition of the importance of high quality and accessible aquatic facilities for improved health outcomes in the community. Smile

Yes, confirmed. The Greens at the moment are the only party who have a formal policy on a decent pool at Sunshine:

At the moment it is all we have got.

If any other party or candidate has an official policy for something decent at Sunshine please post it here.

Brimbank has a population of over 170,000 people and has only one outdoor pool. Most other councils have 5 - 12 outdoor pools. Brimbank also has close to the worst health status in Victoria. But the Council and the State Government demolished 3 outdoor pools in Sunshine.

A 25 Metre pool is now finally scheduled to be built at Sunshine and opened in November 2008

Join in the campaign to have the pools repaired or replaced properly now!
