We attended the so called "Brimbank Aquatic Strategy." last night only to be told by the consultants that the re-development of the Sunshine Pool was not on the agenda! That council had specifically instructed them as part of their brief 'not' to discuss the Sunshine Pool repair or re-development!!!!!!

The consultants, "Sykes and Humphries Consulting", emphasised repeatedly after questioning that the proposed car parks, road and buildings over the Sunshine pool site will go ahead without any consultation with the community!

About 40 citizens attended, the large majority, perhaps 80 - 90% were from Sunshine 3020 postcode.

Depsite the majority of attendees desire to discuss the re-development of the Sunshine Swim and Leisure centre Leslie Humphries and Sharon Sykes emphasised that the meeting was not to discuss the re-development of the Sunshine Swim and Leisure Centre.

The Brimbank Aquatic Strategy and consultation process will not look at or accept input from the Community about the Sunshine Swim and Leisure centre re-development!

The Council has told the consultants not to report on services needed by the Community at the Sunshine Swim and Leisure centre and that council will attempt to go ahead with covering the Sunshine site with a road and car parks!

The Council will try to proceed with the covering of the site A.S.A.P. without any consultation with the local Community!

The Brimbank Aquatic Strategy is a smoke screen intended to give the impression that Community consultation is being undertaken! It is Council wasting more of our funds to give a pretence that they are consulting with the Community!

Citizens of Sunshine were invited to a Community consultation meeting about our pool requirements and then repeatedly told that the Sunshine Pool was not on the agenda!!

The word is that the Labour party representatives in this area want this issue hushed up ASAP and have instructed council to quickly begin covering the broken pool and build their car parks and road.

The word is that councilors, one councilor in particular, is angry that the Community keeps raising this issue and intends to make us pay by doing everything to not only ignore our pleas but sabotage and cloud the issues.

We are being screwed in the worst way possible out here in Sunshine by both our local Councilors and our Labour Party representatives!

And to think that despite most of us having voted Labour for all these years, Mark Latham's 'Ladder of Opportunity' and 'Fair Go' does not apply in Sunshine. No 'Ridgy Didge' pool talk or feasability studies.

No ladder of opportunity exists in the Labour heartland!

We have the least aquatic facilties in Victoria and one of the highest youth populations.

We have waited 12 years for this pool to be fixed.

We were finally invited to a Community meeting to discuss our aquatic needs and were then told that the Sunshine Pool was not on the agenda!

This is the type of Community Consultation we are experiencing in Brimbank.

A 25 Metre pool is now finally scheduled to be built at Sunshine and opened in November 2008
