The Save Sunshine Pool campaigners some time ago may have been responsible for kickstarting what is become a whole movement in the Western Suburbs.
But 10 solid years of well meaning citizens in our community being ignored and rejected by the State Government will have repercussions.
Whether the pool really had anything directly to do with it or not, to many, the ridiculous amount of problems with trying to get the Sunshine Pool fixed was like discovering the tip of a massive ice-berg.
Our community is a no nonsense lot, part of the pride of being from the West is a definite preference for a 'no bullshlt' approach.
Unfortunately while trying to have our pool saved, after years of years of being fed shlt with promise after promise and then silence after election time, a whole movement has now appeared and consolidated.
We won't take your bullshLt anymore is the key message.
And beginning with Sunshine Pool in an area with the least aquatic facilities in Victoria, many people in the West have taken a serious overdose of frustration and anger.
This long term anger and frustration has resulted in people becoming organised to not only share the burden but to try and find ways of resolving the issues that we face out here.
Groups have developed and as per the Save Sunshine Pool group amongst many others, the groups have become very organised, untiring and well subscribed.
On Sunday 19th November a whole bunch of these groups will be coming together under the tall statue of one of the West's very best fighters. A fighter known Australia wide for his passion and never say die attitude.
As it is still very unclear whether the Sunshine outdoor pools are to be replaced we encourage everyone to keep up the fight until an official announcement is made. We have had enough talk and want an official announcement from the State Government and Brimbank council before backing down.
At the moment it is still very vague whether we will be getting an outdoor pool at Sunshine.
Stop the Neglect of the West Rally
Save Sunshine Pool will be taking part in a rally to be held; Sunday, November 19th at 1 p.m. under the Ted Whitten statue at Whitten Oval, Footscray.
All Western Community Organisations and groups concerned about the ‘Neglect of the West’ are invited to attend. Groups or representatives from Schools, Sporting Clubs, Churches, Traders Associations, Services Clubs and Volunteer Groups in our community wishing to speak at the rally are urged to contact the Sunshine Residents and Ratepayers Association on president@sunshine.asn.au
The reason for the rally is to send a clear message to all political parties and candidates that the people of the West are sick of the Neglect spanning decades and perpetrated by both major political parties.
“We want to show all parties how we feel out here and ask them to start addressing some of the inequities we continue to experience West of the Maribyrnong.” Darlene Reilly said.
“We will be asking why safe Labor seats seem to get left behind in the vote buying game come election time by both Liberal and Labor parties and we want to voice our concerns that the West is being neglected, the consequences of which currently affect and will continue to affect many future generations of working class West Melbournians.”
SunRRA urges all concerned citizens and community groups to attend this rally and show the politicians who want our vote they need to Stop the Neglect of the West.
For further updates regarding speakers and groups attending please check the SunRRA website at www.sunshine.asn.au or final press release on speakers and attendee’s will be sent Monday morning (November 13th).
"Stick it up 'em!" _________________ Brimbank has a population of over 170,000 people and has only one outdoor pool. Most other councils have 5 - 12 outdoor pools. Brimbank also has close to the worst health status in Victoria. But the Council and the State Government demolished 3 outdoor pools in Sunshine.
A 25 Metre pool is now finally scheduled to be built at Sunshine and opened in November 2008
Join in the campaign to have the pools repaired or replaced properly now! |
