The Games were not worth it for Sunshine residents.
No-one from the area will be an elite swimmer due to lack of facilities and the expenses involved in trainging and competing.
How many western suburbs competitors were there across all sports? jack ....
If the Bracks government provided $400 for every Sunshine area family there would be $8M for sporting and recreation facilities like and our outdoor heated pool would take about $3M tops. Think of all the great bikepaths, skateparks, open spaces, sports fields and pavilions we could have had.

Commonwealth Games lost money
By 7News
Melbourne's 2006 Commonwealth Games were spectacular, colourful and exciting but 7News can reveal they were also terribly expensive.
Less than 24 hours before Victorian Premier Steve Bracks and Games Boss Ron Walker release the official figures, we can tell you the games lost taxpayers more than $500 million.
It works out to be about $400 for every Victorian family.
Six months after the March Games, it cost the Victorian taxpayer $770 million to stage the games but the revenue and sponsorship is not expected to hit $270 million, resulting in a loss of $500 million.
The original budget was just under $700 million but it blew out due to increased security costs.
Mr Bracks said the Games were worth it for Victoria.
"We have been doing everything to manage the costs involved and maximise the revenue involved," he said.
The government originally promised that a consultant's report on the economic activity generated by the Games would be released in August but it failed to meet its own deadline. |

The Games cost taxpayers $691M so the Seven figures were right on the money.
The govt is arguing they were budgetted to lose this amount and saying how good they were to bring the Games in on budget.
The fact is the $691 M could have been used on many other community projects and programs.
$3M would have fixed Sunshine's pool but they spent over $50M on the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre pool and a space age roof.
There will be significant waste hidden away inside the Games numbers and it makes you weep when you see what isnt happening around our area and know that the A list have given the taxpayers purse a thorough ripping off. |

In the papers today, Herald/Sun:
TAXPAYERS paid out $2.9 billion for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, an independent economic impact study reveals.
"The Games was the catalyst for a major investment in Victoria's sporting, social and environmental fabric," Mr Madden said.
But not in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne Mr Madden.
Where are our taxes going? I am paying through the nose and getting back nothing. Getting attacked in the streets by bored teenagers, and I have to drive to the Eastern Suburbs or Geelong for a swim. (Highpoint Pool is packed and so is the car park)
Shat on by Madden and Bracks and Suleyman Western Subrubs ALP. |
