|
|
Well, what is there to say...
After our rally of 500 people in February this year we sent a letter to Steve Bracks and Justin Madden asking if one of the pools being used for the world Swimming Championships at Rod Laver Arena could be relocated to solve the massive inequality we have in the Western Suburbs and the Sunshine Pool crisis.
This has been a serious issue as there has ever been in Sunshine which has included much emotion and surrounds issues like health, diabetes, shortage of facilities, neglect of the west, $30 million in pokies tax each year from Brimbank etc the facts displaying the critical need for a decent leisure activities for teenagers in Sunshine are overwhelming.
Victorian of the Year Les Twentyman has indicated many times that the teenage issue relating to boredom in Sunshine has reached crisis point.
For many Sunshine Station is now a NO-GO zone with repeated incidents of bashings, theft, gang fights, knife fights.
My 17 year old son was put out of action for three weeks after being bashed on the head by a 'club lock' from behind when he went to catch the train to school only last month.
So we have had five pool rallies amounting to thousands and thousands of participants, petitions submitted now amounting to over ten thousand signatures, statistics from VU, Health professionals, Pool consultants, the police, school principals etc, all calling for a decent outdoor pool facility for Sunshine so that teenagers and familes can have something healthy to do.
The Mother's Group had a meeting two months back attended by over two hundred people all calling for a pool for youth.
AND THE RESULT...
NOTHING.
Meanwhile on the other side of town today, the Labor Party is announcing today that one of the $20 million pool being used for two weeks competition at Rod Laver Arena is being offered to the Liberal dominated Council in Glen Eira.
Can you beleive it?
After ten years of fighting the State Labor Party is giving us nothing - well they are contributing $1.4 million for the demolition of outr three outdoor pools and the new indoor wading pool.
Nothing to say.
There is no other conclusion other than that we and our children are being punished for living in a Safe Labor Seat.
If we were in a marginal seat we would have a $20 million aquatic centre built years ago.
I am devastated by all of this, I never thought that politics was this bad.
After 5 years of hard work trying to raise the politicians awareness about how desperate our community is for our outdoor pools to be restored all we win is a shallow wading pool and the bulk of it we must pay with our rates. 65000 people will use this wading pool according to council documents, but it is only three feet deep...
Another marginal seat is being rewarded by Justin Madden and Steve Bracks with a special case $20 million bonus.
We in the West are getting nothing, again.
Have a look at the yellow pin below which is Sunshine. Our Labor connected Mayor declared in a press release last week that we have more pools than most areas!
The lies, deception and politics is killing us out here.
Absolutely shattered and disgusted with Madden, Suleyman, Bracks and the rest of them. _________________ Brimbank has a population of over 170,000 people and has only one outdoor pool. Most other councils have 5 - 12 outdoor pools. Brimbank also has close to the worst health status in Victoria. But the Council and the State Government demolished 3 outdoor pools in Sunshine.
A 25 Metre pool is now finally scheduled to be built at Sunshine and opened in November 2008
Join in the campaign to have the pools repaired or replaced properly now! |

The only way is to embarrass Bracks and Maddern from now till election day.
I'm still betting we never get a proper pool but we sure as hell can have a big say in who wins Novembers election.
A group needs to bail Bracks up outside 3aw every Tuesday that we can.
He is a low rat that must be pressured at every opportunity.
This Sunday there is a protest outside his Williamstown office.
As many pool people need to attend as possible..and bring banners. |

Ned Kelly gate crashed Justin Madden's marginal seat feel good photo opportunity at East Bentleigh today and the police were called in as Ned stood there with placards relating to the unfair treatment those in the Safe Labor seat of Sunshine are copping. _________________ Brimbank has a population of over 170,000 people and has only one outdoor pool. | Good on you Ned.Sorry the notice was so late that no one else could be there.Justin Maddern is an A Grade suck of the highest order.I'm considering turning SEN off in protest at how they let him use their airwaves to trumpet his governments propaganda. Why not one question EVER about the crap sporting facilities and pools we have here in the West? The sound of his voice literally makes me want to vomit such is my hatred for this cockroach. |

I was there. I am not sure if many of the people attending the announcement really understand what the protest was about I think.
Giane Rooney gave Ned some concerned looks!
Madden would sure as hell knew though you could see it in his eyes but it didn't stop him from smiling the whole time when his minders tried to push Ned away from the podium!
They couldn't get him to move so then they came in with this huge poster with 'summer fun' written on it.
SHould probably have read 'summer fun in marginal seats'. |

Maddern looked like an overwhelmed Bugs Bunny grinning away while Ned's heat was coming on.

This should help explain it:
Thanks Ned!
Note the three location with closed pools all safe labor seats.
Note the two multi million dollar pools being handed out by the government this month have gone to two marginal seats:
Frankston and Glen Eira.
Yes Bill, it is a no brainer how all of this works.
Vote Labor get nothing is the only conculsion I can come too after our 5 year long community fight for what is only fair. _________________ Brimbank has a population of over 170,000 people and has only one outdoor pool. | The message is getting out there.Keep up the pressure.Todays appearance by Ned will have the message spread to another few hundred who will tell another few hundred. The last US election was decided by a few hundred votes in a nation of 250 million.Don't think that Bracks,if faced with more of these protests till election day, won't fold.Sundays 2.30 protest at Williamstown must be supported by Footscray and Sunshine pool groups.Lets light a political fire under Steve Bracks arse in his hometown! |

There is Planning Backlash Rally being held this Sunday 15th October at 2.30 PM.
The beauty about this rally is it is in Steve Bracks back yard - oops nope he has a pool in his back yard unlike the rest of us.
I support the fight against towers especially if there are no pools for the people living in those towers to go swimming in.
We all should be there with the pool signs. Come on Ned we need you for this one too. I'll bring the champayne!!!
RALLY
FOR
P L A N N I N G B A C K L A S H
Premier Steve Bracks needs to understand that Victorian residents are unhappy about the effect that Melbourne 2030 is having on our suburbs and rural areas.
Residents concerns have not been listened to and Steve has broken his promise to protect what we love about our neighbourhoods.
Be part of a
RALLY
outside Steve Bracks’ electoral office in Williamstown
SUNDAY 15th OCTOBER, 2:30PM
101 Douglas Parade, corner of Napier Street
Melways Page 56, B/7
NB: A very low level office in a nice quiet area - wonder who is protecting this from developers?
Please bring posters about Bracks broken promises, about not listening and about not protecting what we love about our neighbourhoods.
How would he like an 18 storey tower next door?
Make a day of it, bring your family, friends, neighbours, visit the famous craft market on the reserve on the waterfront.

Another free $2M x 50M outdoor pool from the Rod Laver World Swim Championships to a marginal seat.
This time its for a brand new Leisurelink Aquatic Centre at Waurn Ponds in Geelong to replace the Belmont Leisurelink .
South Barwon is held by the ALP and needs a swing of 5% to go to the Libs
Geelong is held by the ALP and needs a swing of 8% to go to the Libs.
Marginal electorates win big is the message.
Geelong already has three swim and leisure complexes:
http://www.geelongaustralia.com.au/Services_In_Geelong/Sports_and_Recreation/Swim_Sport_and_Leisure/Leisure_Centres/
This new one will have:
x a free $2M 50M state of the art pool fit for professional swimming competitions
x a a warm water exercise pool
x a learn to swim pool
x a leisure pool with a toddlers area
x a sauna and spa
x a gym
x day care
x three water play areas including water slides, splash park and a water adventure park
City of Greater Geelong Mayor Peter MbMullin said the community's desire for a 50M pool had been quashed by council budget constraints in the initial plans. He said the State government had met that need by providing geelong with the world - class pool. It is a truly magnificent outcome he said.
