Brimbank Council’s original signed off plans and business case included a budget for ‘all year round operation’ of the 25 meter heated outdoor pool that was installed just for that purpose.
Since the pool re-opened seven years ago, Brimbank Council hasn’t even tried to operate its heated outdoor pool during the April – October winter period. Despite a number of community attempts to have Council create a year round swimming culture (like in Fitzroy Pool and at the Harold Holt Pool) our Council continues to block the April – October winter opening of the heated outdoor pool. This in a community where physical activity, health and well being are major issues! Where St Albans pool will be closed down leaving us with one solitary pool.
Enough is enough. We say that time is up Brimbank Council – honour the original all year round operational plans, budgets and community sign off that resulted in the State government handing over the redevelopment pool funds. Make the social investment and generate the social impact over the long term rather than just count beans. Our community deserves it. It is certain to reduce the horrific health statistics in our area. Not only that we pay premium rates and clearly get less facilities across the board.
